Tyler A. To is an associate attorney at Clouthier Law, PLLC, where he works on appellate matters in civil and criminal proceedings.

It doesn’t take a law degree to know that lawsuits are unpredictable storms. Complications lead to ambiguities, ambiguities fuel mistakes, and mistakes risk the wrong outcome. This uncertainty is especially hard to stomach when the stakes are critically high. But as one philosopher observed, “the power of a lawyer is in the uncertainty of the law.” For Tyler, working at Clouthier Law means providing people with the chance to challenge that uncertainty and the way it impacts their lives.

Tyler approaches every brief with the same mission—be sensible about the law, and sensitive to the facts. Before he joined the team in 2024, he wrote motions and research memos at a family law firm. Although proceedings were as intimate as they were intimidating for clients in divorce or custody battles, Tyler admired their grit throughout the process. Today, he recognizes the choice to seek appellate representation as a true act of resolve and handles every case with great care.

Tyler is the son of two refugees who called Texas home soon after the Vietnam War. Their support affords Tyler and his sister the chance to serve others. In his spare time, he enjoys a cup of nitro cold brew coffee, knitting garter-stitch scarves, honing his skills in Super Smash Bros. Melee, or reading about global affairs. A former amateur boxer, Tyler is also passionate about combat sports.
